Democracy Sucks

No matter the result from this Presidential election, half of the country will not accept the process as legitimate. (and maybe for good reasons) There are highly motivated people throughout the country that have a vested interest in who wins. The fights will only get more bitter as government gains more power. (and they've seized an immense amount of power in 2020!)
The longer this drags on, the more people will lose faith in our beloved democracy. The media and politicians love talking about how great democracy is. (Do you remember when Sinclair had their local media stations creepily repeat the same lines?!) But democracy is not a great system and is often at odds with liberty. Democracy, in this sense, is mob rule.
You'll often hear libertarians say "there is no smaller minority than the individual". This really hit home with me when I first heard it. Political parties often talk about minorities. But instead of granting favors to groups of people, we should advocate for personal freedom. If the will of the majority is forced upon the minority, what good is voting?
"Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote".
I largely kept quiet this past week (primarily due to work), but I also just wanted to see how this crazy week played out. However, I could not stop thinking about how awful our system is. America wants to go fight wars oversees to "spread democracy", but we can't even do it right here.
Shortly after Trump's 2016 election, (the often insightful) Jeff Deist wrote "The reality is becoming clear, even as it remains uncomfortable for many: democracy is a sham that should be opposed by all liberty-loving people. Voting and elections confer no legitimacy whatsoever on any government, and to the extent a democratic political process replaces outright war it should be seen as only slightly less horrific."
Finally, 1 Timothy 2:2 urges us to pray for those in authority "that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness". This is something I must do more of myself, as it's not easy to do when you loathe them. No matter what our rulers do, let's just live our lives, love others and love God.
